Cheniere announced on October 22, 2026, that it had signed a long-term sale and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy covering 4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year through 2054. QatarEnergy will purchase the LNG from Cheniere terminals.
Of the total annual volume, 2 million tonnes depend on a final investment decision for the Sabine Pass expansion project. That condition applies to half of the agreement’s stated volume, making the project decision central to the scale of supply ultimately delivered under the deal.

The agreement could support longer-term procurement planning for QatarEnergy and provide Cheniere with a basis for planning future sales. Its practical implications, however, depend on the distinction between contracted volumes and the availability of the capacity needed to supply them. The full 4 million tonnes per year should therefore not be treated as an immediate increase in LNG deliveries.
The conditional portion also links a future purchase commitment to an expansion investment decision. Such a commitment can help underpin the commercial case for additional capacity, but signing the agreement does not itself establish that the Sabine Pass expansion will proceed.
Further company announcements on the final investment decision and delivery arrangements will be the most relevant developments to follow. They would help clarify when the conditional volume could become available and how the agreement translates into physical supply through 2054.
